About Us

A native of Chicago, Elizabeth Little spent many a Saturday morning repairing the well-worn books in the LaGrange Public Library. In the
mid-1970s, applying tape and glue to books returned to the eager hands of library patrons held little possibility of a career for this high-school student.

Elizabeth therefore pursued nursing, and as a registered nurse took off on an adventure in rural nursing in the bayou country of south Louisiana, where she married and started a family.

Twenty-three years later, while rambling through the mountains of northern Virginia, her path crossed that of the Cat Tail Run Book Bindery, and the inspiration for Bayou Bindery was born. Today, the bindery is on the banks of the Bayou Teche, which meanders through Louisiana's coastal bayou parishes.

Through the tutelage of master bookbinders Jill Deiss and Nancy Delaney at Cat Tail Run (http://www.cattailrun.com/), Elizabeth has learned the skills and intricacies unique to hand bookbinding. Apprenticeship with Jill and Nancy continues to expand and advance the quality and types of services offered by Bayou Bindery.
